It is possible to lower the side panel by it's own, however this is not recommended since it increases the likelihood that your child will get out of the cot. But, the patented safety locking mechanism ensures that it can only remain in place if it is connected to the bed properly. This is an excellent feature to have in place for peace of mind, particularly when you're breastfeeding and need frequent night feeds.
